For over 40 years, NAPO has been working to repeal the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). Our tireless efforts have led us to where we are today.
The House passed H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, on November 12, by an overwhelming majority of 327-75. NAPO was in the House gallery for the vote. NAPO participated in the press conference with Representatives Garret Graves (R-LA) and Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) the day we successfully secured the necessary 218th vote on the discharge petition, setting H.R. 82 up for a vote in the House. NAPO Executive Board Member and President of the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association (NJSPBA) Peter Andreyev spoke on behalf of NAPO at the press conference (minute 10:42). Andreyev was joined at the press conference by NJSPBA Vice President and NAPO Sergeant-at-Arms Keith Curry, NAPO Executive Director Bill Johnson, and NAPO Governmental Affairs Director Andy Edmiston.
NAPO has connected with every Senator, Senate leadership, the White House, and President-elect Trump in our efforts to get H.R. 82 finally across the finish line.
When NAPO was the first national law enforcement organization to endorse President Trump, it was due to his support for the repeal of the GPO and WEP, which we noted as one of our long-standing, top legislative priorities.
NAPO continues its fight for the retirement security of all law enforcement officers and their survivors. With the support of President Trump and a strong bipartisan majority, we will get HR 82 across the goal line! This vote is likely to happen within the next 24 hours. Now is the time for one last effort, we need your help. Together we can make this happen, tell your senators they must pass HR 82 NOW!
